LOC Turkey Race #1 - Orrest Head

Well done to those 48 orienteers who abandoned the excesses of Christmas for an hour’s fun on Orrest Head.

Derek Allison’s planning target for a score course is that the winner should be the only person who gets all the controls within the hour. On that basis my course was a little short, but not so bad, with only 6 of 42 returning with full points within the hour.

I was surprised how, using the Odds and Evens format, it was possible to keep folk busy for an hour on such a small area. I hope everyone had a good run out and got rid of the cobwebs.

Apologies to the Yellow Course competitors. Control number 4 got vandalised before anyone had got to it, which was, to say the least, a bit unsettling. So several competitors retired at that point. It was on a stile that I would not have expected the general public to use. No other controls had been tampered with.

Also, although it was Yellow standard, it was quite a difficult course - at the top end of Yellow. I hope I haven’t put anyone off from coming to future events.

With a determination to be as low key as possible, I omitted a number of things, including asking competitors for certain information such as their Age Class and Club. I assume this is not going to upset too many people ! But, again, my apologies.
