Cumbria Schools Orienteering Championships 2012

  • Saturday, 30 June 2012

Things went off well.  It didn't rain, until the prize-giving.  We didn't lose anyone.  The competition was pretty tight in both Primary and Secondary, with Broughton winning the Primary Prize by 3 points and UVHS winning the Secondary by 4.

The general feedback on the courses was that they were fair, and that the Green was one of the hardest set for a Cumbria Schools.  That is the advantage of using Great Tower.  The disadvantage was that the White and Yellow courses were hard to plan, and a taped and manned route was needed.

One control went missing for a little while on the Light Green course.  Hopefully this wasn't one of the competitors.

Particular thanks to Noah Howlett who took time out of his run to help pull someone out of a bog.  He stll won his race with time to spare.  That is the spirit we like to see in orienteering.

Thanks to all those who helped put out controls, collect them and generally assist throughout the day.

Results for the overall Primary and Secondary Teams can be found here.
